YOUR HANDMADE WEEKEND
YOUR HANDMADE WEEKEND
We believe there is nowhere you’d rather be than at Handmade next weekend. With over 270 stalls of the best in Australian design and produce, good food and a great atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to spend a cold Winter’s Day. Head to the Budawang and Coorong Pavilions, 10am until 4pm on Saturday (29th) and Sunday (30th).
But once you’ve had your fill of the region’s most beautiful indoor market, you might want to turn your thoughts to other events happening around the region next weekend. We’ve found activities that centre around food, art and and music, so they’ll complement your Handmade trip perfectly.
THE TRUFFLE FESTIVAL
It’s truffle season, and with the region’s cold Winters and hot Summers, we are in an ideal location to indulge. Over 30 local farms produce this exotic ‘black gold’. Buyers worldwide are recognising the quality of the Canberra region truffle, and several farms are taking part. There are truffle related events from hunts to tastings, and you can check out what’s happening next weekend HERE
ART & FASHION
Monet: Impression Sunrise is an exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia. The name of Monet’s famous painting is the one from which Impressionism takes its name. It is usually housed in the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris and rarely leaves there, but it is currently in Canberra for the nation to see. Together with 60 other Impressionist paintings from around the world, the painting is a symbol of the whole movement and is on display in a newly designed gallery space. You can book HERE
The National Film and Sound Archive is still displaying the original costumes from the iconic film, The Dressmaker. This not-to-be-missed exhibition is a feast of haute couture combining a spectacular story with beautiful vintage fashion. Book tickets HERE
MUSIC
Llewelyn Hall at ANU will be playing host to a glittering performance of Carmina Burana on Saturday. The Canberra Youth Orchestra and Canberra Choral Society will be joined by the Canberra Children’s Choir for a performance that is full of energy and enthusiasm. Book your ticket HERE
And if your taste is more informal, you may want to indulge in Warm Soup Cool Jazz at Olims Bar & Bistro on Sunday. The live jazz is free while you warm up at the hot soup bar or sip on mulled wine. Find out more HERE
