Yes, we know, it’s definitely already here (and cold, and dark and did we say cold?), but we mean the Winter Handmade Market. It’s THIS weekend and we’re very excited about what’s to come! Make time in your weekend for a trip to EPIC, 10am – 4pm Saturday and Sunday, where you will find the best of Australian made. We have a hall (Coorong) devoted to epicurean heaven. Local produce that has been cured, smoked, steeped, baked, fried and matured so that your Winter pantry is packed with flavour. We have two halls (Budawang & Conference Centre) devoted to innovative Australian design. Creative artisans have researched, planned and used handmade methods to produce fashion, homewares, jewellery, accessories, items for children and the guys, items for the garden, items for your pets…

You really will be spoiled, not just by the warmth, smiles and atmosphere, but also by the scents of candles and skincare, the aroma of coffee and the intoxicating  scent of street food. So, where do you start? Firstly, deposit some gold coins into the buckets of the lovely volunteers from Bosom Buddies on your way in. Pick up one of our Market Guides at the door and have a look at the floor plan and stallholders listing. Drop off your warm clothes, sleeping bags, blankets and sanitary items at the Vinnies Blanket Drive, near the coffee stall in Budawang (thank you). And while you’re at it, pick up your freshly roasted and brewed coffee from either the Bearded Brewer in Budawang or Guerrilla Roasters in Coorong. Then, stroll the stalls, talk to the makers, taste the samples, feel the fabrics.

Our fashion designers have created collections that are sure to keep you cosy in the cold. Sophisticated knitwear, custom coats and snug accessories will not only stave off the cold, but add style to your wardrobe. And individuality. Most of our designers make one-off or limited run pieces that represent the best of slow fashion.

Whatever your taste and style, you are likely to find that perfect piece of jewellery within the halls of Handmade. Statement resin earrings will vie for your attention against delicate silver chains. There are precious and semi precious stones, natural pearls, concrete and wood, all in gorgeous shiny settings for you to treat yourself or a loved one. And you’ll also struggle to choose between the lovely scarves and hats to ward off the frost.

We are amazed by the quality and style of clothing for babies and kids from this market’s designers. Yes, we know they’ll grow out of them, but in the meantime, they will lead the way in fashion. And practicality. And once you’ve decided on the mouthwatering fashion, you’ll have to make your choice on the toy (or toys) to take home. We don’t envy you! And of course, there are plenty of treats for your other family members – your four legged friends.

While it’s tempting to hibernate, now is the right time to make changes to your yard and think about the approaching Spring. Handmade’s designers have so much talent when it comes to garden sculptures, pots, ornaments and bird houses. Your garden will be the best dressed by the time the warmth comes back.

We’re very proud of the fact that Handmade’s audience has grown to include the guys. Rather than standing by while the girls shop, there is now a lot of boy shopping to be done. Fashion, accessories, swimwear, skincare and homewares can all be found in this category. And that’s before the food and drink on offer.

Our street food selection keeps on growing. All corners of the world’s cuisines are represented. The chefs will present you with freshly cooked and flavourful dishes on which to snack and feast. South American, Indian, Asian, Australian, French, Greek, Chinese, Korean. We think you get the idea. And of course, for the sweet tooth, there are macarons, nougat, cakes, choux delights, marshmallows, biscuits, baklava. Is your mouth watering yet?

Not only do we have local wineries presenting their vintages to taste and buy, but there are cocktails, innovative spirits, beer and plenty of non-alcoholic refreshments at the Handmade bar.

And then you need to do your food shopping to take home. Jams, chutneys, oils, vinegars, sauces, spices, garlic, nuts, meats and more will find their way into your shopping bags.

If you feel like this is shopping overload, you can always plan your trip over two days. After all, there are enough items on the menu for you to eat different dishes for a month. And enough opportunities for gifts, necessities and indulgences to last a lot longer than that. We’ll see you on Saturday and Sunday, 10am until 4pm at EPIC. Parking is free and entry is free.
