Welcome to the Handmade Christmas Market
WELCOME TO THE HANDMADE CHRISTMAS MARKET
The Handmade Christmas Market is on tomorrow! Come along to EPIC tomorrow evening from 5pm until 9pm and enjoy the ultimate Christmas shopping experience under one roof, while sipping on the region’s finest drinks and snacking on Canberra’s largest indoor street food selection! Then Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be open from 10am until 4pm both days.
Head to EPIC, park for free and shop til you drop. We are in the Budawang Building, the Conference Centre and the Coorong Pavilion. These three halls are all connected and occupy the first buildings on the right as you enter EPIC from Flemington Road.
It’s going to be huge, so here are some more details to help you make your plans.
ACCESS & PARKING
This map should be useful for access. The works are still taking place on the new Light Rail system, so there are roadworks all around EPIC. To sum up, if you’re coming from Gungahlin down Flemington Road, you can enter EPIC via Morisset Road or the main entrance of EPIC on Flemington Road and follow the stewards towards the parking on the arena. (PLEASE NOTE – Morisset Road is only open for EPIC access from Flemington Road – there is no access through to the Federal Highway.)
If you’re coming from the city up Northbourne Avenue or from Sydney down the Federal Highway, don’t turn into Flemington Road as there’s no right turn into EPIC. Instead, enter via either Stirling Avenue (McDonalds) entrance or Old Well Station Road and then follow the stewards towards the parking on the arena. (Follow the signs for disabled parking close to the event or ask the stewards.) It’s then a short walk to our three halls, the Budawang Building, Conference Centre and Coorong Pavilion, all connected. We know it’s going to be busy so the EPIC team has laid on as many helpers as possible, but your patience would be much appreciated.
As usual, Transport Canberra has regular bus routes that run past EPIC, so if you want to come on public transport, head to the WEBSITE for timetable and fare details. We have been told that buses will be running as normal right up until 3.30, but check timetables for any variations after that.
OK, you’re in, so apart from designer gifts, homewares and fashion and a gourmet food hall packed with local producers and street food vans, what else can you find? Here’s a list:
The market is open on Friday evening from 5pm until 9pm for our Christmas twilight market and then on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am until 4pm. If you would like to arrive in the morning, there will be coffee and snacks available in our gourmet food hall from 9.50am so you can start the day with your caffeine fix before shopping begins at 10.
Most of our designers and producers have eftpos facilities to take payment, but there are smaller emerging designers that may not, so we recommend you bring along some cash. There are three ATMs in the two halls, so you won’t be caught short.
Where do we start? Coffee, cold drinks, snacks, meals and sweet treats are all available in our gourmet food hall in the Coorong Pavilion, along with wine and other drinks. There is also an area for refreshments in the Budawang Building. Finding the right food for you will not be a problem. Making a decision might be!
If you have come to visit particular designers, or maybe you are on a strict time limit, there is a list/map of stalls between the halls. Or seek out our friendly Handmade staff at the reception desk. For a full directory listing by category, check out the DIRECTORY on the website. You can also find a listing and some beautiful images in our online HANDMADE MAGAZINE, or to find out more about our amazing designers and producers, head to our BLOG for articles and interviews.
There are several toilets in each hall, with baby changing and a breastfeeding room available. Please ask at reception (between the halls) if you’re lost.
We don’t charge you to get in to Handmade, but this weekend we will be welcoming ACT Together as our door charity, so please put some money in the collection and give the wonderful volunteers a smile. ACT Together is a consortium of agencies that work together to provide services for children in out of home care in the ACT. They are led by Barnados Australia and believe every child deserves to feel joy and happiness during the festive season. Please give whatever you can.
We hope you have a wonderful visit to Handmade, thank you for supporting Australian designers and wish you a safe and enjoyable weekend and a magical festive season. Please share your experience at Handmade, using our hashtag #handmadecbr – we’d love to see your purchases!
