The Handmade Gourmet Food Hall

We all know that Canberra is gaining a reputation as a centre for food. We have a great climate, wonderful fresh produce, clever growers, winemakers and cooks. And Handmade regularly brings all of them together in a celebration just for foodies (along with lovers of design).

At the Handmade Market on 17 & 18 March, there is a whole indoor hall for all things epicurean. There is a dedicated drinks area, where you can sample spirits or indulge in cocktails from local up and coming distilleries. You can taste a number of cool climate wines and chat to the winemakers themselves. And you can sample local artisan beers, making sure of course that you take some home with you to enjoy later.

Coffee connoisseurs will be able to watch the baristas perform their magic (and also be able to seek out their caffeine fix in the design hall) and if coffee isn’t your thing, there are several tea companies to suit all tastes and heavenly fresh juice to keep your thirst quenched.

Jams, chutneys, oils, vinegars, herbs, spices and sauces can be found in whichever direction you look. Not only do you get to taste what you are buying, but having a conversation with the person who came up with the recipe and devised the method is enlightening and fun.

Of course, those with a sweet tooth will not be disappointed. Doughnuts, macarons, biscuits, cakes, cannoli, marshmallows…and chocolate! With Easter fast approaching, our chocolatiers have been busy inventing Easter bunnies, eggs and chocolate treats for you to give to the kids (and keep for yourselves!)

Canberra’s biggest indoor street food selection will also be on offer, so you can enjoy even more time at Handmade, knowing that you won’t be hungry. Indonesian, Greek, South American, North American, vegetarian, vegan, Indian, Australian…Well, you get the picture – there are a lot of choices to be made. Tempted? See you at Handmade, 10am until 4pm Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March, Exhibition Park.
