There are some people who have Christmas in the bag by September, and are delicately sipping bubbles in their carefully planned outfit while the rest of us are fighting the sticky tape. We’re not all panicking on Christmas Eve though, as most people fall somewhere in between order and chaos when it comes to Christmas preparations and a little bit of planning is a good thing.
Handmade has plenty of stallholders who would be delighted to talk to you before the market about the bespoke order of a personalised gift or the preorder of a Christmas staple. Here’s our rundown of some of the designers and producers who can help you tick some of those items off your list now.
Let’s organise the children’s gifts first, as they will be the most excited to unwrap their treasures on Christmas morning. A teepee from JillyJunior will never fail to raise squeals of excitement, and did you know that you can go to their website and select a fabric and size so the right teepee is ready for collection at Handmade? For the perfect child’s room, you can personalise cushions through Lauren Skye Studio. Lauren is busy preparing her list of orders as we speak and there’s still time to select your fabric and have it printed with your little one’s name. A named artwork is also a lovely idea. Talk to Makers and Merchants about a sustainably framed hand painted name for the nursery. Welly’s Wonders is also a great place for a unique gift. Adam’s illustrations of family members, including pets, is always a market favourite, and you can beat the queues by sending a photograph of your models to Adam, picking up the finished product from the Handmade Market. Get in quick though, because their cut off date is fast approaching! And don’t forget your beloved pets. Funkycat‘s furniture is a winner at Christmas, so pick your size and colour in advance before they sell out.
Most of Handmade’s fashion is one of a kind and you can always talk to the designers about your particular requirements, but we have two fashion designers who truly are bespoke. Talk to master tailor, Ariella, about a one off suit or outfit that can still be ready in time for December 25th, or pick your shape, size and colour from Josephene by Jo Lucchesi, and be secure in the knowledge that it will be waiting for you at EPIC over the market weekend, eliminating the need for last minute wardrobe malfunctions.
Special treats that you won’t want to miss out on also include functional leather designs from the award winning leather studio, Farrah Design, initialled silver jewellery from St Prin and auto artworks from Artomobile. Get in touch now so your bespoke gifts can be ready.
We’re all used to ordering our Christmas food in advance, and there’s nowhere better than Handmade to get hold of delicious Christmas ingredients. Why not order your local ham from Pialligo Estate Smokehouse and pick it up at the market? Or put your name down for one of Cookies & Co‘s delicious handmade Christmas puddings? Rosebery St Bakehouse will have sets of Christmas biscuits (and teachers’ gifts) but they sell out very fast, so pre-order yours before the market.
You may have your menu planned, but is your table big enough for all of your guests? We have some wonderful furniture makers at Handmade, and if you get in soon, they can deliver your custom made table in time for your feast. Head to Naturally Ingrained for beautiful wood pieces or boyandgirlco for sustainable recycled furniture. And while you’re thinking about it, Kingfish & Co usually sell out of their perfect little wooden Christmas trees, so you’d be wise to ask them to hold a couple for you so you’re not disappointed!
