Merv Bailey lives and works on the Central Coast of NSW. Having started his working life as a chef, Merv began working with timber full time in 1997 after an illness helped to persuade him that a change in lifestyle was required. He is a self-taught woodturner/carver. Using only Australian native timbers, the majority of Merv’s pieces are made from burls, a growth that develops on some trees, particularly Australian Eucalypts. He also uses the native banksia grandis to make smaller items such as vases, fragrance pots, key rings, etc.
