Our Birthday Party

Our Birthday Market last weekend was such fun! On Saturday and Sunday at Exhibition Park, we threw open the doors to thousands of party guests and treated them to a weekend of fun, giveaways, shopping and eating.

Every hour of the market, we gave away a $100 gift card to one lucky shopper. Over 15,000 people put in an entry and our winners were delighted to be able to take their voucher and spend it on an extra something for themselves.

Our ten exclusive products were wildly successful with shoppers. Miss Molly’s Dolls had collectors lining up for our little doll, Soul & Ark’s Handmade candle scent was popular and Tea Garden Co’s Birthday Tea was on offer as a taster with a splash of ginger beer to refresh. There my be a few of these beautiful products left online, so click HERE for details.

Our designers showed off their beautiful homewares, bespoke fashion and intricate accessories. Shoppers sampled scented candles and skincare and browsed through galleries of art, racks of clothing and displays of jewellery. Our producers had samples of every type and flavour. Shoppers filled their bags with Australian bottles of wine and spirits, with chutneys, jams and vinegars. They tasted sweet treats from doughnuts to macarons and stayed for lunch from our street food area.

The excitement of discovering new products to take home never gets old at the Handmade Market, and we saw shoppers sharing their goodies with thrilled smiles, all while enjoying live music and Handmade’s unique atmosphere, showing again that it is Canberra’s creative market.

Special mention goes to stallholder, Hell Wench for her “best in show” award. Each market, we view all of the stalls and assess their style, layout and products. We look at how well the businesses have thought through every aspect of their attendance at Handmade. Many have beautiful logos on display in original ways. Many have perfect packaging to present their product stylishly. Many have marketed themselves and Handmade through their websites, online news, social media posts and giveaways, and still more have taken the time to plan their stalls, build bespoke displays that perfectly suit the product and make things easy for the shoppers. Martha from Hell Wench, a ceramics studio, changes up her stall every market. This time, she had a small 2m x 2m stall, but managed to pack plenty of product in and also to create space that welcomed shoppers in. With products on all levels from bottom to top, well-displayed branding and a lot of interest, we decided that her planning had paid dividends and she was delighted to receive the award.

Thank you to the people of Canberra and beyond for coming to Handmade and supporting Australian small business. We can’t wait to see you all again for our three day Christmas Market – December 7th for our special twilight market, 5pm – 9pm, and December 8th & 9th, 10am – 4pm.
