Next weekend is the July Handmade Market! 260 stalls full of gifts, homewares, fashion and food will be on show, so you can talk to the designers and producers who craft their artisan products here in Australia, taste the food, sample the snacks and drink the delicious brews on offer. We can’t wait to welcome you to three halls at Exhibition Park Canberra, where parking is free and entry is free.

While you are here in our beautiful nation’s capital, why not make a weekend of it by taking part in one of the other activities on offer over the Handmade weekend?

It’s pretty cold here in Canberra, but the National Arboretum can warm your heart (and provide stunning views) with its knitted installation called “Warm Trees”, where many of the trees are wrapped in multicoloured scarves and knitting workshops are held. Warm Trees is the combined effort of hundreds of knitters of all ages, from ACT, Australia and overseas and is the largest knitted installation in the world.

Bangarra Dance Company’s “Dark Emu” will be on over next weekend, and will “nourish your spirit and connect you with Country”. With world-class dancing, beautiful sets and costume design, and a beautiful soundtrack, this is the perfect opportunity to add a cultural indulgence to your Handmade weekend. Or if jazz and Cuban vibes are more your style, head to The Bar at the Buena Vista, Canberra Theatre Centre, to go back to 40s and 50s Havana, with salsa, tropical jazz and Cuban folk music. The National Zoo is turning 20 this month and has special events and visitor activities over the weekend, including special tours, face painting, lucky door prizes and much more. Wrap up warmly, take the kids to see the animals and enjoy this great Canberra attraction.

And don’t forget, the snow is so close to Canberra, you can almost touch it! Head to the mountains for a day of skiing or pop to the much closer Corin Forest with the kids for a day of fun in the white stuff.

Whatever you choose to do, we hope you have a wonderful weekend, and remember, as Handmade is all indoors, it’s definitely the best place to keep you warm over the weekend of 28 & 29 July!
