Handmade for Men

There was a time when the boys were dragged unwillingly to Handmade, trying to stay out of the way while the girls indulged in some handmade retail therapy. Recently however, we’ve seen a man renaissance at the market, with more men than ever enjoying what Handmade has to offer. From beard oil to beer, here is your lowdown on the products that will appeal, making the July market the perfect place for everyone to shop, eat and relax.

Top Left: Baldwin Distillery. Centre Left: Mi-Wallet. Bottom Left: The Mister Band. Top Centre: Windsor Lane. Bottom Centre: Needs & Wishes Art. Top Right: Blackinkk. Bottom Right: Farrah Design.

Windsor Lane will be at the market for the first time. Launched in 2017 to provide an alternative to the fast fashion flooding the Australian market, the range focuses on individuality, durability and longevity rather than short-term fashion trends. Everything is handmade in Melbourne with bold patterns and classic cuts.

Man-cave favourites, Needs & Wishes Art will be back at Handmade in July. Based in Canberra, these designers are influenced by music, typography, all things vintage and popular culture. The art, coasters and mugs in the product range make great gifts for the man who has everything.

When you buy a paper wallet from Mi-Wallet, you are purchasing a beautifully thought out piece of design. With the aim to create a product to make people think about design, each unique wallet is made of a single folded sheet of newspaper, carefully selected for the image on the front and laminated for strength. Carefully crafted leather wallets are the staple of Handmade regulars, Blackinkk. A minimal aesthetic and long lasting quality define this Brisbane brand with a range of styles and colours crafted from full-grain veg-tanned Australian kangaroo leather. Farrah Design, an award winning Melbourne artisan, is known for heavy duty luxury. Bags and wallets in leather and high quality materials have timeless style and exceptional quality.

Personal grooming products can be found at Handmade regulars, The Mister Brand. Specialising in natural men’s grooming products for the bearded and shaven man, they have a range of handcrafted, vintage style products that are gentle on the skin and easy on the earth. Newcomers, Whispers from the Woods, will also be on hand in July with shaving accessories for careful groomers with a focus on reusable containers and seasonally scented shaving soaps, balms and oils.

Even if the shopping doesn’t appeal, there is plenty on offer in the Handmade drinks area. Regional brewery, Tumut River Brewing Company is an award winning, craft microbrewery producing a wide range of craft beers, supporting the region by sourcing many of its ingredients locally. A good bottle of local whiskey made by Baldwin Distillery is also a draw. Their Bourbon is made with uncompromising methods, with high quality results. And the street food selection in the Gourmet Food Hall is excellent, allowing for hours of grazing. We hope to see the men of Canberra at the Market 10am – 4pm, Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th July.
