GOING FOR GOLD

Looking down the aisles of the local supermarket, you don’t come across many items with gold medals to their name. That tends to be the reserve of the artisan, the small business that makes a product by spending time, using creativity, patiently toiling over processes that bring hard fought results. We’re very proud to say that when you look down the aisles of the gourmet food hall at the Handmade Market, you will find these medal winning makers at every turn. Here are just some of the ones that are turning heads on the awards circuit.

The Tin Shed Group has started attending Handmade this year, and last year took home no fewer than nine medals in the Australian Food Awards, including gold for their Pork Rillette. Based in Victoria, their patés and pork pies are making Handmade customers very happy.

Braidwood locals, Garlicious Grown, have a growing reputation Australia wide for their black garlic. With a gold medal from the Australian Food Awards, this product also had the highest score in any class at the Sydney Fine Food Awards last year. We’ve tried it and we can see why!

Local Canberrans, Enigma Fine Chocolates won the 2017 Champion Australian Small Producer trophy from the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, along with gold at the Australian Food Awards last year and are taking this endorsement as encouragement to grow their business. Obviously, they have Handmade’s full support!

Underground Spirits are also Canberra champions. Their delicious distilled premium spirits have been awarded medals around the world, including the International Wine & Spirit Competition, The World Vodka Awards and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, not to mention a handful of Australian gongs. Newly packaged with a clever Canberran snowflake design to reflect the temperature they distill at, this is a local that Handmade loves to promote.

Also winning international recognition, La Bastide, also known as Saucisson Australia, has won three silver medals in the Saucisson World Cup in France, including one for their unique kangaroo Saucisson. Make sure you try some.

And really, this list is just the tip of the iceberg among Handmade’s producers – you’ll probably struggle to find stallholders that aren’t winning! We firmly believe that you could craft an entire meal from the award winning products you can find in the Gourmet Food Hall – now there’s a challenge…
