For the Kids
Bring the kids to Handmade! There are wide aisles for strollers and prams, baby changing facilities, plenty of delicious snacks and dozens of beautiful stalls that will have them enthralled, solve your gift buying problems, dress them, keep their toy boxes full and have their rooms looking just right.
For the nursery, nothing makes the room a child’s paradise better than a beautiful piece of artwork. Winter Avenue Press creates hand drawn designs that are sweet and perfect for all imaginations. Fizzy Pop Designs also produces beautiful artwork, along with décor products that will help mums and dads to create colourful and imaginative rooms. For art with a story, head to Welly’s Wonders. Adam has spent almost 30 years working as an artist and animator for Disney, Lucasfilm and other major studios. He has worked on some of the world’s biggest film franchises and the list is seriously impressive: The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Lego Batman Movie to name a few and currently, the new Peter Rabbit movie, which is being made in Sydney. The Welly’s collection includes some of Adam’s illustrations, or why not ask him to draw your little ones at the market for a truly original work of art?
Also in the nursery, the whimsical wall animals of Delilah Devine will add a retro touch. Turning salvaged wallpapers into flying ducks, horses and swallows, they will add a touch of fun. And for a real adventure, pick up a handmade teepee from Jilly Junior. Using brightly coloured fabrics to stir the inner child in adults and create playful memories for children, the teepees can also be custom made.
Gifts for your little ones will present you with a challenge of choice at the Handmade Market next week. Edge of the Forest creates a range of soft toys, dolls and other children’s decor items that are inspired by the Australian forest and surrounds, while rattles and dolls from Miss Ruby May make unique and natural gifts. Inspire the imagination and get crafting with a Milkbox craft kit so you can have fun making tutus or pirate treasure chests. Tiny Moons designs beautiful, unique and functional teething rattles and toys for babies as well as stylish silicone jewellery for the modern mum, or for some fun (and a lot of noise), pick up a colourful hand painted bicycle bell from Beep.
To dress your modern baby or toddler, head to one of Handmade’s children’s fashion stalls. Newcomer, Retrobub, has developed her own appliqué technique to add motifs such as sleepy animal faces, monstera leaves and cacti onto her garments, appealing to adults and children up to 5 years old. The Raisin Dit It combines new and old fabrics to make colourful, patterned and hand screenprinted illustrations. Like many of our clothing designers, these garments are made with the environment in mind. Classical children’s clothing can be found at ArchiBee, where the timeless fashion of the past is brought up to date for kids up to 6 and at Wombat and Poss, you’ll find simple and stylish clothing and accessories for babies and children that are earth-friendly and allow them to play.
Handmade is only a week away, September 16 & 17 at EPIC. Bring the little ones and have some fun!
