Helping the homeless by Supporting the Salvation Army Blanket Drive at the Handmade Canberra Market
Handmade Canberra are pleased to partner with The Salvation Army each year for the annual Handmade Blanket Drive at their Canberra market, helping them support people suffering hardship. As the temperatures drop, essential winter items such as blankets and warm jackets become increasingly important for those on our streets. That’s where you come in!
The Handmade Canberra Winter Market acts as a collection point for donations of warm clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and toiletries each year. These items are then given to The Salvation Army Canberra to be shared with people who need them the most. Please clean out your cupboards and donate. They say that if you’d be happy giving one of your used items to a friend, they’re suitable for a Salvos donation. Anything you have that’s in good condition but no longer needed will be perfect.
We are always so amazed by the response we receive at each Winter Market and we always hope that each year will exceed everyone’s hopes so that we can help by donating to the Salvation Army to help those in need throughout Canberra.
The Salvos are solely reliant on community and corporate support and donations and as such, value each donation made.
At the 2022 blanket drive, The Salvation Army had an amazing response with 144 blankets, 181 jackets, 104 toiletry items and 134 general items being donated during the market! The Salvation Army estimate that the in-kind value of these donations would be around $20,000. The 2023 blanket drive was also as successful and saw almost 400 donations being received.
We are very proud of our Blanket Drive and thank everyone who donates to the Canberra charities we support.
