Food and fashion go hand in hand at Handmade. However, food itself goes through trends of its own. While at Handmade, we love giving you the classics – beautifully pressed olive oil, spiced chutneys, smoked bacon, salted nuts and cool climate wines – we also love presenting the latest in food icons.

Anyone heard about the gin revolution? With additional notes as diverse as truffle, butterfly pea and elderflower, gin is flourishing all over the world. Canberra has a number of boutique distilleries that specialise in beautiful gin. Head to The Canberra Distillery and Underground Spirits for a taste or a sneaky cocktail. We’re also welcoming Original Spirit Co. from Victoria so you have a greater choice.
CHIPS & GRAVY
More specifically, Canadian poutine, which is French fries and cheese curds covered in a thick gravy, a speciality of Quebec. Brought to the Handmade Market by La Poutine, their signature gravy is topped with a number of delicious additions for a truly hearty Winter snack.
Spicy, sweet and utterly delicious, the clever brewers at Grumpy’s will by bringing their unique ginger beer to Handmade again in July. The perfect mixer for the above mentioned gin (or any other spirit) this makes the perfect warming soft drink as well.
Iconic, Australian, nourishing, warming. The Aussie pie has been elevated to gourmet status by Queensland beef farmers Black Rock Beef Co. They have used their experience to produce home cooked pies that can be taken away for dinner, and we are very excited to be welcoming them to Canberra, where they are selling exclusively at the Handmade Market.
Originating in sixteenth century France, saucisson sec is a French staple that has been expertly brought to Handmade by La Bastide. And Goose on the Loose has taken salami and given it a new twist with duck & juniper, pork & truffle, wild boar & fennel and kangaroo & chilli among their flavours.
Just. Too. Good. To leave out of this list. Doughnuts are deep fried balls of deliciousness filled with a number of jams, custards, chocolates and other oozy sweet sauces. Krofne will be bringing new fillings to add to their classic jam and Nutella, so form an orderly queue for your sweet snack.
As a healthy, delicious and spicy alternative to coffee, the Chai revolution is gaining momentum. Melbourne based Chai Addict produces a super charged masala chai concentrate that you can enjoy with hot or cold milk or splash into your gin for a delicious cocktail.
Oats are the superfood that everyone wants to set them up in their breakfast. Brushwoods focuses on the production of fresh oats (rolled, steel-cut and groats). They are fresh, not dried and so they are vacuum sealed to ensure that the freshness is retained. If you’re after a super creamy porridge, try fresh oats from Brushwoods.
So, combine your fashion and food shopping at Handmade and take away something trendy for your drinks cabinet or pantry. See you there – 28 & 29 July, 10am – 4pm.
