We’re so excited that the Handmade Market is THIS WEEKEND! We can’t wait to show you the wonderful designers and producers and present you with our beautiful market, where you can shop, eat, drink and have fun.
To give you a taste over the coming days, we will be walking you through the Coorong Pavilion, our Gourmet Food Hall, where our street food and food & drink producers will be showing off their wares. But today, it’s the turn of the Budawang Building and the Parkes Room, where the majority of our fashion, jewellery, homewares, children’s products and gifts will be on display. For a full list of our designers and producers, head over to our beautiful online DIRECTORY which has all of our designers by category, and from Thursday, you can explore our floor plan to figure out where your favourite designer’s stall will be.
Our stunning artisan homewares designers are too numerous to list here, but here’s a quick cross section of what’s on offer this weekend. For exquisite ceramics, head to Hayden Youlley, whose textured paper designs are seriously beautiful, or Louise M, whose subtle colours and native flora designs are too good to walk past. Textiles in the form of elegant and quirky hand printed cushions come from Handmade favourite, Bob Window and traditional block printed cushions from newcomer, her indigo. Head to newcomers, Meraki Makers for wooden accessories for you kitchen, or pick up an irreverant mug from Look Mama! Sarariums will be able to provide you with tableaux of terrrarium art, or you can look for the perfect piece for your garden from Ironworx. You’re sure to discover your new favourite scent from one of our candle designers, including Lumi, The Little Flame Co and Mi Amor. The Handmade gallery is full of wonderful artists, from family portraits by Welly’s Wonders to fine art from The Fifth Season and newcomer, Chole Waddell, there is really something for every taste. For upcycling at its best, check out the lights from Upswitch and the repurposed accessories from Insdustriana, and furniture from Naturally Ingrained or Kingfish & Co is sure to impress. And that really is just scratching the surface.
Men, women and children are all going to find something wonderful to wear at Handmade. Have a look at the beautiful dresses made from repurposed men’s shirts at Butterscotch Castle. Master Tailor, Ariella, will be happy to talk through your bespoke design and Canberra designer, Zilpah Tart will be displaying her latest collection of unique Canberran dresses. Leatheron will demonstrate a new way to wear leather, while Made 590’s patterned pieces will raise smiles. Feminine styling from newcomers Milk & Thistle and eco fashion from Lauren & Angie will appeal to the girls, while Revs n Threads’ range of vintage vehicle designs will be a hit with the boys.
Again, this category has too many beautiful designers to mention, but have a look at the simple silver jewellery of A Silver Circle or the more dramatic pieces from Blacbrail Atelier. Quirky offerings by Happy in Finland or Bop Bop B’Gerk will appeal, while statement pieces by Frank Ideas and Marit Hamer are well worth a look. Bags can be found in leather by expert Sarah van Oosteram and craftsman Farrah Design, delicate kimonos have been repurposed into clutches and purses bu Kimono Yamamoto and vegan bags are on display at Needle vs Thread. For scarves, have a look at Heirloom Fibrecraft and don’t forget to order your personally designed shoes from Page Shoes before you leave.
SKINCARE & GROOMING
From perfume by Amacyn to beard balm by the Mister Brand, you can stock up on beauty products at the market this weekend. Head to Nature Lab Skincare for a wide range of lotions and potions and make sure you grab aromatherapy candles from Soul & Ark or get your glamour on with lipstick from Just Lippy.
FOR THE KIDS
If decorating the nursery is your priority, you’ll find a range of art and accessories around the market, including gorgeous Teepees from Jilly Junior and pictures by Fizzy Pop Designs. Toys from What I Made and teethers from Tiny Moons are some of the goodies you’ll find as gifts for your little ones, and don’t forget the fashion. Wombat & Poss, The Raisin Did It and Archibee, amongst others, will be happy to show you what they have.
If you’re coming from interstate, make sure you take something home to remember us by. Many of our designers have Canberra specific products. Tea towels from Burbia, artwork from Little Noisy Miner, mugs from Trevor Dickinson and maps from Twice Designs are a good start, but head to the Canberra section of our directory to see who has more to show you.
Watch out for a review of our Gourmet Food Hall, but in the meantime, head to our directory and plan your weekend at the Handmade Market.
