Broadcroft Design

We love welcoming new stallholders to Handmade and have a wonderful selection for you at the next market on 5 & 6 May. Hailing from the Sunshine Coast, one of our new artisans is Broadcroft Design, a team of passionate metallurgists who create sculptures for gardens and public spaces. Using locally sourced materials, all of their pieces, big and small, are produced in their studio with high standards and innovative design their speciality. We asked Natalia Broadhead about the business, which started in 2011 with the aim to create quality handmade products for people who appreciate non mass-produced items. “We draw inspiration from the things around us, and creating a garden/landscape product, we often look to nature for this and strive to make things that have both form and function.”

It’s quite a trip from The Sunshine Coast to Canberra, so we asked Natalia what the motivation was to come to Handmade. Starting at Eumundi Markets a while ago, the team has connected with a number of other like minded artisans. “I follow a few of these people on Insta/FB and saw that they were attending Handmade Canberra. We checked it out and it represented the kind of event we are interested in, and a great opportunity to expand into a new area.” Asked what they are looking forward to most about their trip to the capital, the answer was misty mornings and cooler weather “and finding some treasure of my own while we’re there!”

The May Handmade Market is just a week before Mothers’ Day, so we were interested to know whether Natalia has anything special planned for Mothers’ Day. “Every day is Mothers’ Day when you are lucky enough to have the little family I have, but really, whether I’m working in the shed or just being at home in the garden with my family, Mothers’ Day is just another great day.”
