Trimming the tree

It’s almost time to decorate the Christmas tree, but have you thought about having a real one? This blogger grew up in England, where one of the big traditions was going to the local garden centre to choose the tree. To this day, the scent of pine takes me back to childhood cold twinkly festive seasons. I can hear you saying “it’s too warm in Australia for a real tree,” but The Christmas Tree Truck can solve this problem with its delivery, set up and pick up plan that will leave you revelling in the scent without finding those pesky needles for months after the tinsel has been packed away.

Ben, Liam, Pat & John make up the team behind The Christmas Tree Truck. Brothers Ben and Liam had a lightbulb moment at a family dinner while talking about real trees and, realising that no one in the Canberra region was delivering really trees, the business was born.

The four, who all went to school together, and have since gone on to develop skills in customer service, property, marketing and web design, started the business in 2013. The idea was to solve the problem of going out to find a tree, getting it home, setting it up and then removing it, by offering the full service and taking the stress away from what should be a magical decoration. The business was launched at Handmade, where they sold 15 trees on the Saturday, and congratulated themselves before selling another 15 the following day. And they haven’t looked back.

The team sources its trees from farms in New South Wales and Victoria, allowing them to visit and inspect the trees regularly and keeping transport costs down. Each tree is on a 5-6 year harvest cycle, with all farms endorsed by the Australian Forest Products Association. The trees are shaped when picked, and are checked to meet the team’s high standards.
