There’s No Place Like Home
Canberra is a talented little place! We’ve been having a close look at all of our wonderful designers and of the 250 stalls coming to Handmade next weekend (yes, it’s next weekend, 10 & 11 June, save the date!) a significant number are from within ACT and even more from the Canberra region. For an area so small, we think Canberra’s got a lot going for it.
We made a list for you of our most local artisans, designers and producers, but it got so long that it was reading like a telephone directory (remember those?!) so we decided to just highlight a few.
The majority of our street food vendors hail from Canberra, proving the point we make every market that Canberra is a foodie paradise. From your morning coffee and fresh lemonade to a hearty lunch and dessert, Canberra’s offering is up to its usual standard for next week’s market. Uncle Juan’s Bakehouse will be providing the pies and sausage rolls, Mr Papa will have a Peruvian menu for you to choose from and hot soup from the Italian Traveller will warm you up. And with Asian, Greek and good ol’ Aussie options, our Canberra street food sellers will not disappoint.
Canberrans can cater for your sweet tooth as well, with crêpes from Le Petit Breton, biscuits from Rosebery Street Bakehouse, Cannoli Brothers’ famous sweet treats, and double doughnuts from Krofne and Bombolini, amongst others.
It’s the long weekend, so treat yourself to a tipple from one of the local region’s wineries and distilleries. Again, most of our alcoholic offerings are from local producers, so stop and have a taste and a chat about the cool climate and the complex processes that go into these drinks. And on a cold Winter’s day, there’s not much better than local mulled wine by Pallet & Vine to warm your hands and hearts.
Canberra also has your Larder staples taken care of. From Honey & Glow’s delicious local honey and Sutton Forest Olives’ range of oils, to tea blends from Endeavour and Tea Garden, there is a large number of Canberran produce to take home. Your chocolate desires, energy snacks, and condiment options can all be met through locals and you can even find the perfect recipe in one of Quicksand Publishing’s local recipe books.
But it’s not just food that Canberra is good at. We have fashion by local talents such as Rockstars and Royalty and Zilpah Tart. Local jewellers such as Jane Brown Pearls and Vetro e Metallo will make you sparkle and accessories from designers like Rhapsody Design and Second Dimension will complete your look. And don’t forget your lipstick from Just Lippy. And believe us, the list of fashion labels from Canberra is long. Come and browse, come and chat. Canberra is a great talking point!
Ethical soaps from Base Soaps are not the only scented offerings from the local region. With The Little Flame Co and Lush Candles providing scented warmth, we can assure you that Canberra smells as good as it looks. Really need some Winter warmth? Try the beautiful range of wools from locals, One Tree Hill Alpaca. And our talented locals also make homewares, from furniture to ceramics, beautiful linens, plants and artwork, along with practical planners from ATP Creative Design and gifts from Look Mama.
Your little ones will love the offerings from Canberra locals. Between all our our inspired locals, you can set up your nursery, dress your babies and entertain them with beautiful toys.
So, come along next weekend (10 & 11 June) and celebrate everything local with us at Handmade. We can’t wait to see you there!
