Issy Kerr has injected fun into those sharp intake of breath moments that characterise parenting. With her packs of milestone cards, designed to be held by little ones and pets in comic photos, she is bringing her brand of laughter to Handmade on 18 & 19 March for the first time. We chatted to Issy about Seriously Milestones.
Tell us about your business
Seriously Milestones is all about having a bit of fun! We know parenting (whether it be humans or fur babies) is a really tough gig, so we want to encourage everyone to share the load and have a giggle in the process. Our Milestone Cards are designed to celebrate (or commiserate) ‘real’ moments, that we then encourage people to share on social media via #seriouslymilestones.
Seriously Milestones also care about our social and eco commitments, and we are so proud to inform people that $1 from each of our Milestone Card packs is donated to charity; and that the money from our greetings cards support our sponsor child in Uganda. Our products are all Australian made, utilising small businesses that also care about the environment in their processes.
What made you apply to the Handmade Market?
I had always planned to do ‘bigger’ markets this year, having only attended local and one day markets in 2016. When I asked around, Handmade Canberra came up time and time again, so I decided that I couldn’t miss out!
What are you looking forward to most about your trip to Canberra?
Am I allowed to say Saturday night drinks? It will be a flying trip so I’m not sure that I’ll get to see much of Canberra, but I am looking forward to meeting customers and networking with other makers – it’s the reason I do markets.
Can you describe your studio/place of work?
My workspace is a desk in the front sitting room of my house – the room has no doors so it can be hard to totally lock myself away, but it is all that I really need and means the kids can play on the floor while I do bits here and there. We recently got a shed which means finally having storage. Before that, our walk in robe was getting pretty crowded!
