Marit Hamer is a Melbourne based jeweller who selects unusual and imperfect gems and combines them with copper to make beautiful pendants and rings. A first-timer to the Handmade Market on 10 & 11 September (10am-4pm), Marit has answered our three questions:
- What is your business all about?
My brand is about the crafting of personal and unique items from natural materials. The way the copper wears over time personalises each piece in such a lovely way and each stone is hand-picked for its natural imperfections and distinctive qualities and then carefully crafted into a wearable pendant or ring. The natural variations mean that no two items are ever exactly the same which makes my creative process exciting every single time. Ultimately my brand is about the beauty of imperfection.
- What made you apply to Handmade?
I wanted to be a part of the Handmade Canberra market because I love its ethos of locally made products. I love supporting small business and being a part of the makers community and love opportunities to meet people appreciative of the same values I have.
- Sum up your business in THREE words
The three words would probably be imperfection, simplicity and uniqueness.
Thanks for talking to us Marit. We can’t wait to see your beautiful collection.
