Winter is the best time of year to invest in a Leroy Mac blanket or beautifully soft piece of clothing for you or your little one. Back at the market on 10 & 11 June, we can’t wait to see the new range and feel how divine these merino creations are. We asked Rebecca some questions about the business.
Tell us about your business
We are Leroy Mac Designs… 4th generation merino wool growers who use our very own wool to make our range of 100% Australian merino woollen blankets, throws, beanies and scarves.
We send our greasy fleeces straight from our sheep over to Italy to processed and made into yarn. We had to send our fleeces to Italy, as sadly there is no one in Australia that is able to make machine knitting yarn that is fully machine washable… The last processing plant that was able to do this left Australia about 5 years ago. Italy then sends our wool back to us and we have friends that have knitting machines that knit our blankets up for us in Ballarat Victoria.
We design the colours and patterns of all of our products. We decided to go to Italy instead of China to have our wool processed, because we were guaranteed, by DNA testing, that the wool we send over, is the wool that we get back. My husband and I can tell every customer which mob of sheep every blanket has come from. We are one of the only companies in Australia, that we know of, that is using its own wool to make fully machine washable garments.
