Helping Hands in Winter

Handmade Canberra believes in supporting our community in many ways. This extends to our support of charities and not for profit organisations that are working to improve the quality of life for members of our community.

At the June market next weekend, we are supporting two vital charities.

Anglicare are assigned as greeters at the entrances to the event. Handmade is free, but we encourage you to make a gold coin donation to the door greeters as you enter the market. Anglicare is a not-for-profit organisation focused on helping disadvantaged families, children, youth and communities throughout regional NSW and the ACT. Anglicare focuses on working with children, young people and families who are homeless or in crisis, addressing their immediate physical needs and also supporting their long-term social, emotional, spiritual, educational and financial needs as they work towards a better future where they can thrive. Anglicare makes a life-changing difference to thousands of vulnerable children and families each year, thanks to the generous support of our local community.

During the June Market, Handmade will also be hosting Vinnies Australia at a stall that will be collecting donations for the annual blanket drive. The St Vincent de Paul Society is committed to actively and passionately speaking out against the causes of poverty and inequality. The Canberra Night Patrol is staffed by about 280 volunteers, serving up to 1000 homeless and at-risk people a month with light refreshments, and donating clothing and hygiene packs, along with blankets, jackets, beanies and scarves during the bitter Canberra Winter. They provide a snack and a listening ear. Their blanket drive seeks to collect warm items for Canberra’s homeless, but also to raise awareness.
Please hep Vinnies by going through your cupboards and bringing along warm items of clothing, blankets and sleeping bags, along with hygiene packs (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant etc.)
Each donation will receive an entry into the Handmade Hamper giveaway worth $300 and the more you donate, the more chance you have of winning this amazing prize.
