Fashion Contained

Some of the most striking images we took at the Handmade Fashion shoot in June were set in front of a rusty old shipping container. Contrasting with our beautiful and perfectly-groomed models, we couldn’t have dreamed a better backdrop to make some more Handmade fashion shine.

Steph, Caitlin and Tegan are wearing outfits by EllA. EllA is the label of Pamela McGraw, who graduated a fashion design diploma and went into costume design for the national theatre of Vienna. EllA was set up in 2002 when Pamela relocated to Australia and reflects her love of dancing and movement. Comfortable but flattering, each of her collections is crafted from wool, silk and cotton. Asymmetrical shapes and draping are key characteristics of EllA’s style.

Steph (left) wears grey boiled wool jacket with ruffled neck, $175, and asymmetric black skirt with one pocket, $120. Caitlin (centre) wears Leonie ponte coat with longer back, $175, and Antoinette dress with high neck, $165. Tegan (right) wears Theres shirt dress with pockets and vegan leather lace sleeves, $165.

Accessorising the outfits is jewellery from two of Handmade’s designers. Steph (below – bottom left) is wearing a Frank Ideas “chaotic long necklace.” Made from wide rubber in charcoal (it’s also available in white), it sells online for $70 but is available from Shop Handmade for $60. Tegan (below – top right) is wearing a Frank Ideas “black leather ruffle collar” available online for $185. The ring is Tegan’s own.

Frank Ideas belongs to Rowan Shaw, who has been making and designing most of her life. With a background in theatre and design, jewellery became a passion when the demands of the training routines of two very sporty children meant it was impossible to work from anywhere other than the home studio or lap top in the car. Frank Ideas jewellery and accessories are created from an eclectic variety of materials including rubber, textiles and resin, resulting in pieces that make the wearer look effortlessly fabulous.

Caitlin (above – top left) is wearing the rock cluster necklace by Appleye. Reflecting Appleye’s organic style, this necklace is available in silver or plated rose or yellow gold. They are available online or at the Handmade Markets for $120 for silver and $130 for Rose or yellow gold plated.

Naomi Dootson is the designer and creator of all things Appleye and feels that the unique quality of each of her textured pieces is what sets Appleye jewellery apart. The time that goes into creating each individual piece is a labour of love and has to inspire those who have chosen to invest in them.
