Simone Deckers is inspired by the pure joy and freedom of riding her bike around the streets of Melbourne and the beauty of her natural surrounds. Femke Textiles was born out of this inspiration. Carefully selecting high quality and hardwearing sustainable materials, Simone focuses on the sustainability and quality of hand-printed and handmade products that she will be selling for the first time at the Handmade Market on 10 & 11 September (10am – 4pm). We asked Simone our three questions:
1. What is your business all about?
Femke Textiles is all about creating beautiful, colourful and sustainable textiles for you, your home or bicycle! All patterns start off as a hand drawn sketch that end up on silk screens that I pull by hand in my Melbourne studio. Printing only on sustainable natural fabrics, I understand the important role designers can play in reducing the environmental impacts of the products they create. My love of nature drives the desire to promote a symbiotic relationship between design and the environment. All products are 100% Australian made and designed.
Fellow designer/artists and friends who have previously attended Handmade Canberra all recommended it!
